The best of both worlds: Sram Etap 12-speed combined with the best bikes on the planet, namely the S-Works. Sram’s new 12-speed wireless shifting groupset is light, strong, and has a smaller gear ratio. Of course, the new group is for sale in the disc and is a matching power crankset.

If you want to go fast anytime, anywhere, this is your bike. This is a bike that feels just as at home on a touring stage as it is on a tour, and thanks to a completely new design, excellent aerodynamics, and – of course – disc brakes, Specialized’s ‘most complete road bike’ has become even more complete.

Description

To keep the weight of the S-Works Tarmac Disc as low as possible, advanced optimization software from the aerospace industry has been used. With this, they have taken the lay-up of their new FACT 12r carbon fibers to an unprecedented high level. Thanks to these advanced techniques, they managed to save nearly 200 grams in weight. You read that right: a frame that has become a whopping 20% lighter – the perfect recipe to grab a new PR on that one hill.

We then continued to build on Rider-First Engineered ™ technology, so that the new Tarmac is stiff and comfortable in the right place. In addition, the geometry has been refined, based on countless Retül data points from the professional riders of Specialized. This has allowed them to develop a Performance Road Geometry that offers the perfect combination of razor-sharp handling and efficient power transfer.

While a rigid frame helps immensely in this regard, it is also important to incorporate some flexibility into the frame in the right places. That’s why Specialized designed a Seatpost that gives a little yield in the top 120mm. In addition, they have lowered the seat stay and modified the shape of the seat tube. The new Tarmac accommodates 30mm wide tires, which translates into 28mm Turbo Cotton tires on a Roval CLX 50 rim. This allows you to drive with lower tire pressure, which benefits rolling resistance, grip, and comfort. These improvements naturally keep the pure racing character of the Tarmac intact but do provide some relief in bad roads. You will be grateful to us on your next long drive.

But why disc brakes? The answer is simple: “Why not?” Disc brakes provide superior braking performance regardless of the weather while being only marginally heavier than rim brakes. This means you can descend faster and have more control over your bike.

All a bonus, but Specialized knows that aerodynamics are the most important component in making a bike faster. The professional riders from Bora-Hansgrohe and Team Quick-Step Floors from Specialized are now also extremely demanding when it comes to aerodynamics. That is why they set themselves the goal of looking for ‘free’ aerodynamic gains: The low weight and the well-balanced handling had to remain absolutely intact. During a six-month design process, they discovered a number of points where these ‘free’ gains could be made: a new front fork shape, lowered rear swingarm with aerodynamic tubes, and a d-shaped seat post and seat tube. The result? A bicycle over 40 kilometers is approximately 45 seconds faster than other lightweight bicycles in the same category.
